How we measure who ChatGPT recommends
These rankings aren't opinions, votes, or paid placements. They are a record of what ChatGPT actually answers when we ask it — the same way a real business owner would — who to call.
Measured, never sold.
Money cannot buy a place on this list. No security company paid to appear here, no security company can pay to appear here, and advertising anywhere on this site will never change a measured ranking. If that ever stops being true, this site has no reason to exist.
The five steps, in plain language
- 1
We ask the questions real business owners ask.
In each metro we ask ChatGPT for a commercial security company 4 different ways per service — everyday phrasings like "Who is the best commercial security company in my city?", "I manage a commercial building and need the fire alarm system inspected. Who should I hire?", and "What company should I call to install access control at my office?". We ask separately about four kinds of work: fire alarm, access control, security cameras, and commercial security systems. No trick prompts, no leading questions. Across 1 metro and all four services, that came to 16 checks for this edition.
- 2
We record every company it names.
Each answer gets logged exactly as given. We then match every recommendation against the 232 commercial security companies in our dataset. Each business ChatGPT names is credited to exactly one company — and when we can't tell for certain which local company it meant, no one gets the credit. No company is ever double-counted.
- 3
Frequency sets the rank.
A company recommended in 3 of 4 checks ranks above one recommended in 1. One mention is never treated as a rank on its own — asking the same question several ways is what makes the result dependable. Ties are shown as ties.
- 4
We publish the top of the list — and only the top.
Each metro page shows the companies ChatGPT actually recommended, most-recommended first, service by service. We never publish a bottom list and never name who didn't make it. A company that isn't listed simply didn't come up in that edition's answers.
- 5
We re-run it quarterly.
The same benchmark, the same way, every quarter. Companies that improve their AI visibility can appear in the next edition — and the run date is printed on every page. This edition: July 2026.

What this is — and what it isn't
Being on this list means ChatGPT recommended that company when we asked, in that edition, in that metro. It is a measurement of AI visibility — not a judgment of the quality of anyone's work, and not a claim that unlisted companies are worse at what they do. AI answers also change over time, which is exactly why we re-measure quarterly and date every edition.
Common questions
How do you measure which U.S. commercial security companies ChatGPT recommends?
We ask ChatGPT the questions real business owners and property managers ask — like "Who should I hire to inspect the fire alarm system in my building?" and "What company should install access control at my office?" — 4 different ways for each type of service (fire alarm, access control, security cameras, and commercial security systems), and record every company it recommends. Each company on a list was named in those answers; companies named more often rank higher. We ran 16 checks for this edition and compared the answers against the 232 U.S. commercial security companies in our dataset.
Can a security company pay to be on this list?
No. This list is measured, never sold. A company appears here only if ChatGPT actually recommended it when we asked. Money cannot buy a place on this list.
What does it mean if a company is NOT on this list?
It means that when we asked ChatGPT for a commercial security company in that company's metro, that company never came up. That says nothing about the quality of their work — only that businesses who ask AI for a recommendation are being sent somewhere else. Most companies haven't shown up in AI answers yet, so the lists are short.
How often is this updated?
We re-run the same benchmark quarterly with the same methodology, so companies that improve their AI visibility can appear in the next update. This edition was measured in July 2026.
